Thora Allen
Allen (Olson) graduated from Milaca High School in 1955. She was active in band, chorus, theater, was editor of the yearbook and a member of the National Honor Society. She was selected Miss Milaca in 1954.
She graduated from Hamline University in St. Paul in 1959 with a degree in Biology, Chemistry and Medical Technology. She married Burton “Pete” Allen in 1959 then, as a medical technologist, went to work at the Princeton Hospital calibrating their existing chemistries and blood studies as well as establishing new studies as the hospital grew.
Thora has taught Bible School, Sunday School and sang in the choir at Zion Lutheran Church for over 40 years. With four boys who became Boy Scouts, she has been active in that program. She was presented a plaque “In Appreciation for Devoted and Untiring Work” from Pack 19.
Education has been very important to Allen and she’s been involved with many projects and committees at Milaca Schools and received several awards from the administration, staff, student body and community. She has been deeply involved with the Milaca Scholarship Foundation, almost from the time it was established in 1987. Allen worked with MSF Chairman Dr. Keith for several years. After his death in 1983 she was asked to take over his role as awards chairman, which she has done for 18 years, awarding over 1,000 scholarships to Milaca students who want to further their education.
