Erin graduated in 1998 from Milaca High School. She spent her high school years as a
member of the National Honor Society and she earned multiple Academic Letters. She
participated in Volleyball, Basketball, Speech, and was a state entrant with the MHS
Mock Trial team.
Erin received her MD and PhD from the Mayo Clinic Medical Scientist Training
Program in Rochester, Minnesota. Her PhD thesis work focused on the adaptive
immune response to cancer antigens. She completed her internal medicine residency
and hematology/medical oncology fellowship at Mayo Clinic through the Clinician
Investigator Program.
Currently, Dr. Schenk is a physician scientist at the University of Colorado, Anschutz
Medical Center in Denver, Colorado. She is a medical oncologist who specializes in the
treatment of patients with lung cancer and leads a translational research laboratory that
investigates cancer treatment resistance in lung cancer.
The Schenk Lab is part of the Thoracic Oncology Research Initiative at the University
of Colorado. Dr. Schenk’s clinical and scientific efforts to improve the understanding
and treatment of lung cancer have been supported by grants from the American
Cancer Society, Break Through Cancer, Cancer League of Colorado, LUNGevity, and
the National Cancer Institute, National Institutes of Health.
Outside of work, Erin loves exploring Colorado with her 2 sons, Grayson (8) and Alden
(5). She recently ran a 5k and is learning to drive a motorcycle.
