Paul E. Trimble
Paul Trimble was active in sports, a member of the National Honor Society and an Eagle Scout while at Milaca High School. After graduating in 1931, he entered the Coast Guard Academy, graduating in 1936. He was sent by the Coast Guard to the Harvard Business School where he graduated in 1941. During his Coast Guard career, he served on three separate ships in the Atlantic and Pacific and in the Bering Sea near Alaska. In 1964 he was promoted to the rank of Rear Admiral and in 1966 he became Vice Admiral and second in command of the Coast Guard. Paul later was chairman of the task force that developed plans for the newly-formed U.S. Department of Transportation. He earned two Distinguished Service medals: the Legion of Merit award and twice awarded the Distinguished Service Medal. Trimble, who died in 2005, helped establish the Great Lakes Maritime Academy in Traverse City, MI.
